Stamp Announcement 07-11: Pineapple Stamped Cards

Pineapple stamped cards

The Postal Service™ will issue a 26-cent Pineapple stamped card design on May 12, 2007, in Washington, DC. The card, designed by Ethel Kessler of Bethesda, Maryland, also goes on sale nationwide May 12, 2007.

Artist Cathie Bleck of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, created the pineapple artwork with black ink on white scratch­board, a board with a thin coat of white clay on its surface. The white in the design is the result of scraping away a por­tion of the black ink using a razor-sharp tool. Bleck describes the process as similar to woodblock printing.

How to Order First Day of Issue Postmark

Customers have 60 days to obtain the first day of issue postmark by mail. They may purchase new stamped cards at their local Post Office™, by telephone at 800–STAMP–24, or at The Postal Store® Web site at www.usps.com/shop. They should address the cards (to themselves or others), and place them in a larger envelope addressed to:

After applying the first day of issue postmark, the Postal Service will return the cards through the mail. There is no charge for the postmark. All orders must be postmarked by July 11, 2007.

Stamp Fulfillment Services also offers first day covers for new stamp issues and Postal Service stationery items postmarked with the official first day of issue cancellation. Each item has an individual catalog number and is offered in the quarterly USA Philatelic catalog. Customers may request a free catalog by calling 800-STAMP-24 or writing to:

Philatelic Products

There is one philatelic product available for this stamp issue: Item 224761, stamped card w/first day cancellation, $0.38.

Distribution: 26-cent Pineapple Stamped Cards

All stamp distribution offices (SDOs) will receive auto­matic distributions of the following 26-cent Pineapple stamped card items: 224700, 24800, 224900, and 225000 (for vending use only). Stamped card items will be automat­ically distributed to SDOs in two waves.

The initial automatic distribution of all formats begins April 17, 2007, and will be completed May 9, 2007.

The second automatic distribution of all formats, begins May 15, 2007, and will be completed June 17, 2007.

Initial Supply to Post Offices

Post Offices will not receive an automatic distribution of these stamped cards, but should order sufficient quantities of those formats which are required to meet initial customer demand. Post Offices must order these stamped cards from their designated SDO using a separate PS Form 17, Stamp Requisition/Stamp Return. SDOs must not distrib­ute stamped cards to Post Offices before May 4, 2007.

Additional Supply

Post Offices requiring additional stamped cards must requisition them from their designated SDO using PS Form 17.

SDOs requiring additional quantities of stamped card Items 224700, 224800, 224900, and 225000 (for vending use only) must go online to the SDO Stamped Card Fulfill­ment Site to place the order: (1) launch Internet Explorer and (2) type in the address bar: ashtonpotter.myprintdesk.com/uspostalservice.
