Driving E85: Northland District leads in alternative fuel use

With its expanding use of E85 fuel — a special mix of 15 percent gasoline and 85 percent ethanol — the Northland District has emerged as a Postal Service leader in the use of alternative energy supplies.

The district has increased its use of E85 fuel by 65 per­cent in the last three years. In 2006, postal vehicles in the Land of 10,000 Lakes used more than 273,000 gallons of E85 fuel.

Today, more than 90 percent of the district’s E85 fleet vehicles use the energy-saving fuel. Also, the Minnesota America Lung Association presented the Northland District with its Extra Mile Award for the unit’s “dedication to the advancement of E85.”
