Sony Digital Passport Camera Systems and Media

The Postal Service™ has negotiated a contract with Sony for its UPX-C200/20 digital passport camera system at over 50 percent off retail pricing. The contract also includes digital media at additional savings.

The Sony UPX-C200/20 digital passport photo system offers wireless connectivity, which means no cables or docking station. The camera system allows operators to frame photos that meet U.S. Department of State (DOS) requirements. Three Sony photo printers can run simultaneously. This will help reduce waiting time for customers at the busiest passport acceptance sites.

The enactment of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative mandated by Congress under the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 has led to greater demand for U.S. passports.

Postal Service passport acceptance sites reported year-to-date photo revenue at $45.58 million. This is a 74.6 percent increase over the $26.1 million for the same period last year. The increase is a clear indication that the Postal Service is doing an outstanding job of meeting the public’s need.

There remains an opportunity to provide greater customer convenience while generating new Postal Service revenue. Several hundred Postal Service sites have the potential to gain DOS approval to provide passport photo services. Unfortunately, they have not purchased the camera equipment necessary to meet DOS requirements.

If you are interested in adding passport photo services to your facility or are considering upgrading your current passport camera equipment, consider the UPX-C200/20 from Sony.
