Talking Points: Express Mail Sunday/Holiday Delivery Premium

Express Mail service is the only overnight product in the market with a delivery option offered 7 days a week. It is accepted at more than 37,000 retail locations nationwide.

Below are some points to keep in mind when discussing the premium with customers:

• The $12.50 premium is to cover our costs for delivering on days when Post Offices are usually closed.
• The Express Mail Sunday/Holiday Delivery option will be available through Click-N-Ship service, WebTools, APCs, CPUs, and PC Postage providers.
• For purposes of comparison, the Sunday/Holiday Delivery Premium is equal to what our competitors charge for Saturday delivery. The Postal Service does not charge extra to deliver on Saturday.
• Each shipment will be identified with a special yellow-and-white “Sunday/Holiday” sticker (Label 25), which will be applied at the point of acceptance.
• Electronically generated labels will contain the text “Sunday/Holiday Delivery Guaranteed.”
• Customers with an Express Mail Corporate Account (EMCA) may charge postage and fees for Express Mail shipments — both domestic and international — to one central account. Customers may deposit Express Mail shipments paid through a corporate account at any Express Mail collection box, at a Post Office, or with a Postal Service letter carrier.
• A customer whose Express Mail shipment would arrive on a Sunday or a holiday — and who wants a lower-cost option — can choose to have the shipment delivered on Monday or the next business day after the holiday at the regular Express Mail price.
• Express Mail International^® items received from other countries will be delivered on Monday or the next business day after the holiday.
• Postal Service personnel should avoid referring to the premium as a “surcharge.”
• The premium will be applicable to pieces guaranteed for Sunday/Holiday Delivery beginning March 3, 2008.
