On August 11, 2009, in North Hollywood, California, the Postal Service™ will issue the 44-cent, Early TV Memories commemorative stamps in 20 designs in a pressure-sensitive (PSA) pane of 20 stamps (Item 463300), and a booklet of 20 premium stamped postal cards (Item 896600). The stamps, designed by Carl T. Herrman, North Las Vegas, Nevada, go on sale nationwide August 11, 2009.
With these stamps, the U.S. Postal Service® commemorates 20 great shows from TV’s golden age. For more than half a century, Americans have turned to television for entertainment and information. To those watching in its early days, TV offered the additional excitement of the new. Whether laughing at the first situation comedies, tingling at crime dramas, or identifying with ordinary people who had their day in the spotlight on game shows, audiences were charmed by the novelty of the young medium.
Customers have 60 days to obtain the first day of issue postmark by mail. They may purchase new stamps at their local Post Office™, at The Postal Store® website at www.usps.com/shop, or by calling 800-STAMP-24. They should affix the stamps to envelopes of their choice, address the envelopes (to themselves or others), and place them in a larger envelope addressed to:
Early TV Memories Stamp
Postmaster
North Hollywood Post Office
7035 Laurel Canyon Blvd.
North Hollywood, CA 91605-9998
After applying the first day of issue postmark, the Postal Service will return the envelopes through the mail. There is no charge for the postmark. All orders must be postmarked by October 12, 2009.
Only the following pictorial postmark is permitted for the Early TV Memories stamp. The word “Station” or the abbreviation “STA” is required somewhere in the design, because it will be a temporary station. These cancellations are being provided to the field so that Post Offices can use the artwork if they wish to host “second day” ceremonies, etc. As a reminder, these are not first day of issue cancellations, but may be used as “First Day of Sale” cancellations.

To finalize the Early TV Memories stamp pictorial postmark art, insert the date, city, state and ZIP™ Code of the physical location of your event adjacent to the stamp image. Overall dimensions of the pictorial postmark must not exceed 4 inches horizontally by 2 inches vertically. Collectors prefer the dimensions 3 1/2 inches by 1 1/2 inches.
Stamp Fulfillment Services also offers first day covers for new stamp issues and Postal Service stationery items postmarked with the official first day of issue cancellation. Each item has an individual catalog number and is offered in the quarterly USA Philatelic catalog. Customers may request a free catalog by calling 800-STAMP-24 or writing to:
