IMM Revision: Mailing Standards Reorganization for Global Express Guaranteed, Express Mail International, Priority Mail International, and First-Class Mail International Services

Effective September 8, 2009, the Postal Service™ is reorganizing Mailing Standards of the United States Postal Service, International Mail Manual (IMM®) subchapters 210, 220, 230, and 240 to enhance clarity and to improve ease-of-use.

This reorganization for Global Express Guaranteed®, Express Mail International®, Priority Mail International™, and First-Class Mail International™ services will increase customers’ ability to find information in the IMM. It also closely aligns with our recent reorganizations for International Priority Airmail™ service (part 292) and International Surface Air Lift® service (part 293), in which we organized these mail classifications by the following topics:

a. Description and physical characteristics.

b. Prices and postage payment methods.

c. Mail preparation.

d. Mail entry and deposit.

There are no substantive changes with these revisions; however, editorial changes are made throughout for clarity and consistency.

We will incorporate these revisions into the next printed version of the IMM and into the monthly update of the online IMM, which is available via Postal Explorer® at http://pe.usps.com.
