In a final rule published in the Federal Register (73FR 49333–46348) on August 21, 2008, the Postal Service™ provided advance notice that commercial letters and flats with POSTNET™ barcodes will not be eligible for automation prices as of May 2011.
Mailers requesting Confirm® service for their automation letters or flats currently use either an Intelligent Mail® barcode or a PLANET Code® barcode, in combination with a POSTNET barcode. Therefore, when POSTNET barcodes are retired in May 2011, Confirm subscribers who continue to use the POSTNET and PLANET Code barcode combination will no longer be eligible to claim automation prices for their mailings. They will, however, be able to participate in Confirm for nonautomation mailings of letters and flats.
