Stamp Announcement 11-39: Lady Liberty and U.S. Flag

On September 14, 2011, in Washington, DC, the Postal Service™ will issue a Lady Liberty and U.S. Flag stamp (Forever® priced at 44 cents), se-tenant pair (two designs) in a pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) double-sided book­let of 20 stamps (Item 679400).

The Lady Liberty and U.S. Flag se-tenant stamps feature photographs of world-recognized symbols of the United States. Raimund Linke’s close-photograph of the Lady Lib­erty replica at the New York-New York Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, appears on the stamp art. The photo­graph of the U.S. flag is by Ron Watts. Terrence W. McCaf­frey was the art director.

The stamp will go on sale nationwide September 14, 2011.

Distribution: Item 679400, First-Class Mail Lady Liberty and U.S. Flag (Forever priced at 44 cents), PSA Double-Sided Booklet of 20 Stamps

Stamp distribution offices (SDOs) and stamp distribu­tion centers (SDCs) will receive a standard distribution of the Lady Liberty and U.S. Flag (Forever @ 44 cents) stamp. Distributions are rounded up to the nearest master carton size of 4,000 booklets.

Initial Supply to Post Offices

SDOs/SDCs will not make a subsequent automatic dis­tribution to Post Offices for this item. Post Offices may order this new First-Class Mail® Forever book from their designated SDC/SDO. Post Offices may preorder this item 30 days before the September 14 first day issue date to ensure their office has quantity available. SDOs/SDCs should not distribute Item 679400 to Post Offices before August 31, 2011.

How to Order the First Day of Issue Postmark

Customers have 60 days to obtain the first day of issue postmark by mail. They may purchase new stamps at their local Post Office™ facility, at The Postal Store® website at www.usps.com/shop, or by calling 800-STAMP-24. They should affix the stamps to envelopes of their choice, address the envelopes (to themselves or others), and place them in a larger envelope addressed to:

After applying the first day of issue postmark, the Postal Service will return the envelopes through the mail. There is no charge for the postmark. All orders must be postmarked by November 14, 2011.
