Inspection Service controlled items (see Exhibit 624.243) that are identified for disposal must be reported to the local postal inspector in charge who will issue disposition instructions. Security containers (aka “safes”) must have the entire locking mechanism including the internal link­ages in the door removed before they can be sold, recy­cled, or otherwise trashed.
