For 2011, the Postal Service™ paid Social Security contributions of 6.2 percent of covered wages. Employees contributed 4.2 percent, rather than the normal 6.2 percent, because of a temporary reduction in employee contributions under tax relief legislation.
On the 2012 Personal Statement of Benefits, however, the amount that the Postal Service contributed to Social Security is erroneously shown to be 4.2 percent, instead of the 6.2 percent the Postal Service actually contributed. The employee contribution is correctly shown as 4.2 percent.
