DMM Revision: Clarification of Standards Relating to IMpb Use

Effective April 1, 2013, the Postal Service™ is revising Mailing Standards of the United States Postal Service, Domestic Mail Manual (DMM®) 708.5.1.1 to clarify standards relating to the data requirements of the electronic file that mailers submit along with mailings bearing Intelligent Mail® package barcodes (IMpb). This revision clarifies that mailers may include either the ZIP + 4® routing information or destination address when submitting piece-level information to the USPS in their electronic files.

Although this change will not be reflected in the DMM until April 1st, mailers may begin preparing their mailings in accordance with these standards immediately.
