A USPS® employee recently received a call from an individual claiming to represent Citibank. The employee was asked to log in to a “Citicards” website to check his account. The employee was also asked to call a toll-free number that connects to an automated response requesting that callers enter their credit card or Social Security numbers.
The Computer Incident Response Team (CIRT) recommends employees never respond to any communications asking for such information. Credit card companies like Citibank already have this information on file and do not need to confirm it with customers.
Employees who receive such a message should make a note of the information provided to them in the event they need it for a future investigation.
