Notice: IMpb for Registered Mail and Certified Mail Transition Period

As a reminder, the Postal Service announced in the Federal Register notice final rule, titled New Standards to Enhance Package Visibility (78CFR, 76548-76560) dated December 18, 2013, a transitional period for mailers to comply with Intelligent Mail package barcodes (IMpb) requirements for certain extra services. Certified Mail and Registered Mail are not required to be in full IMpb compliance until January 25, 2015. This transitional period will provide additional time for mailers to prepare their systems, change label and envelope stock, and deplete their inventories of preprinted forms. Customers using Registered Mail and Certified Mail without an IMpb are not subject to the IMpb non-compliant fee assessed when applicable to the class of mail for which the extra service is being purchased.
