When enjoying the summer harvest at your next cookout, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommends storing food appropriately (perishable food such as meat and dairy products should never sit out longer than an hour) and cooking meats thoroughly. According to the FDA, meat should be cooked as follows:
n Beef, pork, lamb, and veal (steaks, roasts, and chops): 165 °F with a 3-minute rest time;
n Ground meats: 160 °F; and
n Whole poultry, poultry breasts, and ground poultry: 165 °F.
Summer is a great time to try new recipes with fresh local produce and meat. Keeping your plate colorful is an easy tip for healthier eating for you and your family!
