Effective November 7, 2016, the Postal Service™ will revise Mailing Standards of the United States Postal Service, Domestic Mail Manual (DMM®), section 503.2.0, to clarify how Registered Mail™ service may be obtained.
Registered Mail service may only be obtained by presenting the mail to a Post Office™ location where the service is available or presenting the mail to a rural carrier, as provided in DMM 503.2.1.3. Registered Mail not presented according to the standards in 503.2.1.3 (i.e., collection box) is not eligible for Registered Mail service.
Although this clarification will not be published in the DMM until November 7, 2016, this revision is effective immediately.
