Dogs Gone Digital

Effective May 13, 2017, customers scheduling a Package Pickup on usps.com or on USPS Mobile® will be able to update their “dog present” status for the benefit of USPS® carriers. The Postal Service™ requires a status update from customers scheduling package pickups on the carrier’s line of travel. This option offers USPS delivery personnel up-to-date dog status information, which helps prevent dog-related injuries. Providing this information will not affect service to the customer.

Customers who have previously indicated the presence of a dog at their address can update their previous dog status as follows:

n Change response from “yes” to “no.”

n Change response from “no” to “yes.”

Note: If the “dog present” status has not changed, the customer doesn’t need to do anything.

Once a customer updates the “dog present” status, the system transfers the updated information to the MyPO carrier manifest.

Although dog-related incidents declined by 12 percent last year, we must continue to identify new ways to improve:

n In FY 16, we documented 6,842 dog bites.

n In FY 17 (through March 2017), we documented 2,449 dog bites.
