Spring Cleaning Starts with Your Desk

Bad news for all spring lovers — Punxsutawney Phil has seen his shadow and 6 more weeks of blistering cold winter is imminent. While bundled up inside, use the time to clean and clear your workspace to protect against cyberthreats. After all, it is never too early to start your spring cleaning.

How does a tidy workspace offer protection from cyberthreats? Keeping sensitive information, such as important documents, USPS® passwords, ACE ID numbers, and USPS credit cards off your desk and in secure locations will protect you from criminals who would exploit the information.

Here are some housekeeping tips to keep USPS information and devices secure:

n Secure any USPS-issued device when not in use. If you are working from home and do not have a laptop cable lock, secure your laptop in a closed file cabinet or a location out of plain sight. Never leave USPS devices in your vehicle.

n Lock your computer screen. Make sure your screen is locked by pressing the “Windows + L” keys simultaneously on your keyboard. Do not allow children, friends, or family to access any USPS-issued device.

n Store all sensitive documents in a private and secure location. Storage locations must not be easily accessible. Make sure you promptly shred and properly dispose of any sensitive documents you no longer need.

Need to report a lost, missing, or stolen USPS-issued device, or hard copy files containing sensitive, sensitive-enhanced, or critical information?

n Alert your manager immediately.

n Inform the Cybersecurity Operations Center by sending an email to CyberSafe@usps.gov.

n Contact your local Inspection Service office by calling 877-876-2455.
