This summer, you may need to use public Wi-Fi for Internet access when away from home, such as at a hotel or airport while vacationing or traveling. But how secure are these public networks and who is watching or recording what you do online?
Using a virtual private network (VPN) will protect you from the dangers of public Wi-Fi by creating a private and encrypted Internet connection for your devices. Additionally, once you use the VPN to secure your Internet connection, you must protect your data by not entering personal information on your USPS-issued device.
If you travel this summer, protect the USPS® network and your personal information by following these cybersafe tips:
n No more Wi-Fi worries. Public Wi-Fi connections such as those in airports and hotels may not be secure. Always use a VPN to make secure Internet connections.
n If you leave it, lock it. When not using your USPS-issued devices, lock them in a hotel safe or use a similar safeguard. If you are leaving any devices in a car, secure the items by placing them in the trunk.
n Don’t check it, carry it on. If flying within the United States, make sure you carry your USPS-issued devices on the plane. Never leave them unattended or bring them on an international trip unless it is an approved business trip.
