IMM Revision: Termination of International Postal Money Order Service

Effective October 1, 2022, the Postal Service™ will revise Mailing Standards of the United States Postal Service, International Mail Manual (IMM®), Exhibit 371.2 and the corresponding International Country Listings, to reflect that the cashing of international postal money orders between the Postal Service and the following countries will be discontinued as of October 1, 2022:

n Anguilla.

n Antigua and Barbuda.

n Bahamas.

n Barbados.

n British Virgin Islands.

n Dominica.

n Grenada.

n Jamaica.

n Montserrat.

n Saint Kitts and Nevis.

n Saint Lucia.

n Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

Effective October 1, 2021, as noted in the article titled “IMM Revision: Termination of International Postal Money Order Service” in Postal Bulletin 22577 (7-29-21, pages 6–7), the foreign posts for the countries listed above stopped selling international postal money orders destined for the United States, and on that same date, the Postal Service stopped selling international postal money orders destined to the countries listed above.

Consequently, the following procedures apply for an international postal money order for any of the countries listed above:

n Issued by any of the foreign posts for the countries listed above: in accordance with IMM 371.5, the recipient must cash it at a U.S. Post Office™ facility by the expiration of the validity date on the money order or before October 1, 2022, whichever comes first.

n Issued by the United States Postal Service and destined for any of the countries listed above: the purchaser may redeem it for face value at a U.S. Post Office on or after October 1, 2022.

In addition, effective October 1, 2022, the Postal Service is revising Exhibit 371.2 to reflect current availability by removing from the exhibit all the countries associated with current footnotes 2 and 3.

(1) Albania, Bolivia, Cape Verde, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guinea, Guyana, Honduras, Mali, and Sierra Leone will not issue money orders for payment in the United States.

(2) Effective January 1, 2022, Trinidad and Tobago stopped selling international postal money orders destined for the United States. Likewise, effective January 1, 2022, the Postal Service stopped selling international postal money orders destined to Trinidad and Tobago. Effective January 1, 2023, Trinidad and Tobago will stop cashing international postal money orders issued by the Postal Service. Likewise, effective January 1, 2023, the Postal Service will stop cashing international postal money orders issued by Trinidad and Tobago.
