*Exceptions for Hazard Classes 6, 7, and 9 are described in DMM 601.10 and IMM 135.

 

Mail items may be returned if content descriptions on the customs form do not make it clear that no dangerous goods are enclosed.

 

UNACCEPTABLE item descriptions

ACCEPTABLE item descriptions

No descriptions or vague descriptions such as “miscellaneous goods,” “daily commodity,” and “precision instruments”

Product serial numbers instead of descriptions

Contents unknown

Wallets or compact discs

Household goods

May contain pressurized aerosol cans, flammable paints, or adhesives

Chocolate, candies, shirts, or dresses

Sporting goods

May contain ammunition or compressed gases

Racket, ball, or shoes

Camping goods

May contain compressed gas cooking fuel or matches

Tent or sleeping bags

Diving goods

May contain compressed gasses

Wet suits, diving masks, fins, or snorkels

Medicines, drugs

May contain alcohol or be packed in dry ice

Ibuprofen or antacid tablets

Cosmetics

May contain flammable perfume, manicure goods, or nail polish remover

Soap or lip gloss

Automobile components

May contain flammable fuel additives, aerosols, or compressed gas

Mirror or seat cover

Medical device

May contain blood pressure measurement devices or thermometers that contain mercury
