Ensuring Security of Apartment Mailboxes

To ensure that apartment mailboxes are safe from tampering by thieves, the U.S. Postal Service® and its federal law enforcement arm, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, recommend that you replace old receptacles with new units. The recommended USPS-STD-4C units offer state-of-the-art protection for your tenants’ mail.

The new standards for wall-mounted mail receptacles, USPS-STD-4C, are approved by the Postmaster General and meet rigorous security requirements. The wider compartments eliminate rolled-up mail, and the spacious and secure parcel lockers minimize trips to the Post Office. If your mailboxes are more than 30 years old, it may be time to upgrade them to more secure units.
