7-1.6 Continuing Professionalism

All CO appointments, regardless of level, must be reviewed annually by the appointing official in order to ascertain that the CO has maintained professional proficiency and otherwise remains qualified. The appointing official will determine whether a particular CO’s efforts in this area meets the professional development requirements and should be credited toward completion of their required 21 hours of annual training. Therefore, COs must do as follows:

  1. Annually complete and document 21 hours of supply management training covering such areas as, but not limited to, new requirements, techniques, policies and procedures, regulations, changes in statutes, business research, or evaluations of postal purchasing practices.
  2. Maintain their professionalism through attendance at webinars, seminars, conferences, association meetings, or other professional activities or performing coursework in supply management commensurate with their CO level and responsibilities. The appointing official will determine whether a particular CO’s efforts in these areas meet the professional development requirements and should be credited toward completion of their required 21 hours of annual training.
  3. Sustain and expand their knowledge of the purchasing field through reading professional literature.
