DMM Revision: Delivery Confirmation With Standard Mail Not Flat-Machinable Pieces

Effective with the pricing change on May 14, 2007, we are revising the Mailing Standards of the United States Postal Service, Domestic Mail Manual (DMM®) to offer Delivery Confirmation™ service for pieces mailed at the new Not Flat-Machinable (NFM) Standard Mail rates.

NFM pieces are rigid or nonuniformly thick flat-size pieces and large pieces (15 inches to 15-3/4 inches long or 3/4 inch to 1-1/4 inches thick) that we do not process on our primary flats-sorting equipment and usually handle and deliver as parcels. This new subcategory provides mailers a lower-than-parcel rate option for pieces that do not meet our revised standards for flats. For more information about NFMs and the pricing change, please refer to the April 6, 2007, special Postal Bulletin or to www.usps.com/ratecase.
