Where it all began: USPS celebrates at Jamestown festivities

New Millennium Studios Vice President Daphne Maxwell Reid, USPS Governor Katherine Tobin, Virginia Attorney General Bob McDonnell and Jamestown 2007 Stamp and Cachet Project Director Dr. Edwin Logan.Thousands flocked to Jamestown, VA, recently to celebrate the 400th anniversary of America’s first English settlement. And USPS was in the middle of it all.

The Postal Service celebrated by issuing the 41-cent The Settlement of Jamestown stamp. The First-Class Mail stamp depicts the three ships that carried the settlers to Jamestown, and comes in the shape of a triangle — representing the settlers’ triangular fort.

USPS Governor Katherine Tobin was the dedicating official and also inserted a signed sheet of The Settlement of Jamestown commemorative stamps into America’s 400th anniversary commemoration time capsule — to be opened in 50 years.
