Safety milestone

National Postal Mail Handlers Union Local 329.Chattanooga, TN, Processing and Distri­bution Center (PDC) recently became the 100th postal worksite to earn the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s Volun­tary Protection Pro­grams (VPP) Star award.

“Our employees immediately recognized the value in protecting the well-being of everyone who works here and wanted to work with us in building a safe workplace,” Chattanooga Safety Spe­cialist Frank Creswell said. “Our success is directly related to our employees’ involvement. Everyone understands that the ultimate responsibility for his or her safety starts with the person in the mirror.”

Since VPP began, postal worksites entering the pro­gram reduced injury and illness rates by 50 to 70 percent.
