Lucky you — you just won a foreign lottery. The problem is, you have to pay a portion of your winnings back in taxes. So, you cash the check they sent you and wire them back the money. Everyone’s happy, right?

The Postal Service, along with the Postal Inspection Ser­vice, has launched an awareness campaign to help con­sumers avoid being the victims of fraudulent check schemes like this one. It’s available at www.fakechecks.org.
