Delivery

New Notice Left and Return Guidelines

On June 16, 2008, the Postal Service™ ended automatic redelivery for Express Mail® service. If the customer is not available when the carrier makes a first attempt to deliver the Express Mail shipment, the carrier will leave a PS Form 3849, Delivery Notice/Reminder/Receipt. Now, the carrier does not attempt delivery the next day. On day three, if the customer has not contacted the Postal Service for delivery or picked up the Express Mail shipment, the carrier will leave a second PS Form 3849. If the customer has not contacted the Postal Service to arrange delivery or picked up the Express Mail shipment by close of business on day five, it is returned to the sender.

The Notice Left and Return Guidelines poster (see page 64) has been updated to reflect the changes to Express Mail service. For additional information, see http://blue.usps.gov/delret/L4CustServSupp_Function4.htm.
