On May 11, 2009, in Kansas City, Missouri, the Postal Service™ will issue a 44-cent, Seabiscuit definitive stamped envelope. The envelope, designed by John Mattos of San Francisco, California, goes on sale nationwide May 11, 2009.
The U.S. Postal Service® will issue a stamped envelope featuring the racehorse Seabiscuit. John Mattos created the design, which depicts a scene from the exciting race between Seabiscuit and War Admiral. An unassuming champion, Seabiscuit raised the hopes and spirits of a beleaguered nation during the Great Depression with a series of unlikely victories.
The Seabiscuit stamped envelopes will be available in the following formats.

Customers have 60 days to obtain the first day of issue postmark by mail. They may purchase new stamps at their local Post Office™, at The Postal Store® website at www.usps.com/shop, or by calling 800-STAMP-24. They should affix the stamps to envelopes of their choice, address the envelopes (to themselves or others), and place them in a larger envelope addressed to:

After applying the first day of issue postmark, the Postal Service will return the envelopes through mail. There is no charge for the postmark. All orders must be postmarked by July 13, 2009.
SFS also offers first day covers for new stamp issues and Postal Service stationery items postmarked with the official first day of issue cancellation. Each item has an individual catalog number and is offered in the quarterly USA Philatelic catalog. Customers may request a free catalog by calling 800-STAMP-24 or writing to:

Post Offices will not receive an automatic distribution of these stamped envelopes, but should order sufficient quantities of those formats that are required to meet the initial customer demand. Post Offices must order these stamped envelopes from their designated SDO using a separate PS Form 17, Stamp Requisition/Stamp Return. SDOs must not distribute stamped envelopes to Post Offices before May 4, 2009.
SDOs requiring additional envelopes must go online to the SDO fulfillment website at http://ashtonpotter.my printdesk.com to place the order. Online ordering schedule for SDOs will not begin until the second wave has completed distribution.
