The U.S. Postal Service® is a leader in reporting and reducing energy and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. In fact, from 2008 to 2012, we reduced our GHG emissions 9.9 percent while maintaining record levels of service to our customers. The 9.9 percent reduction is equivalent to removing nearly 270,000 passenger vehicles from the road for a year.
Our next step is to learn how to prepare for the changing world. In 2012, the Postal Service completed our first climate change adaptation plan. The climate change adaptation plan will help us identify where we are vulnerable to climate change and how we can help avoid and minimize disruptions in mail service.
October’s Energy Action Month observance is the time to commit to action, conserve energy, and learn more about our changing climate. To learn more about Sustainability at the U.S. Postal Service and how we are confronting climate change, please visit our website: www.usps.com/green.
Thank you.
