When it’s time to recycle printer and toner cartridges, think USPS® Federal Recycling Program — with one exception. If your location has a PRIME — Printing and Imaging Environment — managed printer, used toner cartridges must be returned to Hewlett-Packard (HP). Since the Postal Service™ is doing the return, use our products — don’t use the return label that’s in the box.
The Federal Recycling Program is the easy and cost-effective way to recycle inkjet and toner cartridges from non-PRIME printers. Employees simply go to fedrecycling.com to fill out the online form and print a prepaid label. Clover Technologies Group, which recycles, remanufactures, and remarkets inkjet and laser cartridges, will pay the postage.
It’s good for the environment and for USPS sustainability efforts. Recycling transactions through the Federal Recycling Program are counted toward USPS recycling performance reports.
For PRIME printers — those larger multifunction machines that also scan, copy, and fax — USPS is required by contract to return used toner cartridges to HP. Only HP-brand cartridges that were new when received are to be returned. Do not return any cartridges that have been remanufactured, refilled, or recharged.
Go to http://blue.usps.gov/purchase/services/recycletoner.htm for information on how to return HP toner cartridges. HP now includes an Intelligent Mail® package barcode on these shipping labels. Each label is now unique and provides tracking for USPS and the customer. Please recycle your old labels.
