Clarification — Priority Mail Included Insurance — Returns Exclusion
Effective July, 28, 2013, the Postal Service™ revised Mailing Standards of the United States Postal Service, Domestic Mail Manual (DMM®) to introduce standards providing either $50 or $100 of included insurance coverage for Priority Mail® pieces, with the exclusion of Priority Mail pieces sent using the following services: Merchandise Return Service (MRS), Priority Mail Open and Distribute®, or Premium Forwarding Service®.
This article serves to clarify that Priority Mail Return Service, one of three USPS Returns® products using scan based payment, is a sub-category of MRS. Therefore, the included insurance for Priority Mail excludes all MRS pieces, including Priority Mail Return Service pieces.
