The Postal Service™ observed National Dog Bite Prevention Week in style this year by launching a new electronic Dog Alert function.

A hard copy of PS Form 1778, Dog Warning Card, has traditionally been used to alert USPS® carriers to the presence of a dog. As of mid-May 2016, consumers that schedule a Package Pickup on https:⁄⁄www.usps.com⁄ or on USPS Mobile® will be asked if there is a dog at the pickup location.

This information will be stored securely in our internal system and will not impact mail delivery or pickup. When USPS carriers approach a residence in which a customer has indicated the presence of a dog, the handheld scanner will provide an audible alert.
