Focus on Actions that Engage Employees

The United States Postal Service® continues to make employee engagement a top priority because of its commitment to employees. As Postmaster General and Chief Executive Officer Megan Brennan states, “Only through taking care of our employees can we truly take care of our customers, and ultimately, grow our business.”

Why is it necessary to focus on actions that engage employees? Engaged employees are more likely to come to work, more likely to engage with customers, and less likely to have accidents.

Managers and supervisors play a vital role in the engagement levels of their teams. They can increase engagement levels by focusing on the 12 elements of engagement (see blue.usps.gov/hr/emp-engagement/pdf/brief-engagement-guide.pdf).

The most basic employee need is knowing what is expected at work and having the tools and equipment to do the job right. Additionally, listening to employee opinions and providing recognition and growth opportunities is essential for employee engagement.

Focusing on actions that engage employees creates a thriving and effective workforce, which ultimately improves the customer experience, and drives increased revenue and performance for our organization.

For more information about employee engagement, contact the Engagement team by sending an email to Engagement@usps.gov or by calling 844-303-6424.
