Publication 52 Revision: Tobacco Products Minimum Age Requirement

Effective July 30, 2020, the Postal Service™ is revising Publication 52, Hazardous, Restricted, and Perishable Mail, section 472.25, to align the minimum purchase age of tobacco products with the Federal legislation of minimum purchase age for the sale of tobacco products.

472.25 Minimum Age Requirements

[Delete Exhibit 472.25 and revise the text to read as follows:]

Federal law requires purchasers of tobacco products to be age 21 or older. Higher age requirements will be applied by the Postal Service for any cities and counties across the country that may have minimum purchasing ages above those mandated by the Federal Government. Mailers are responsible to fully comply with all other federal, state, and local laws before mailing.
