Effective May 20, 2021, the Postal Service™ is revising all applicable sections of Publication 52 (Pub 52), Hazardous, Restricted, and Perishable Mail, to align mailing standards with the Department of Transportation’s (DOT’s) elimination of the Other Regulated Materials Domestic (ORM-D) category effective January 1, 2021. Changes to Pub 52 will reflect removal of the ORM-D category and associated label or text marking, and incorporation of the DOT Limited Quality ground mark for surface transport.
In addition, the Postal Service is relaxing current standards for the placement of hazardous materials package labels and markings.
Although the ORM-D category was eliminated on January 1, 2021, the Postal Service will incorporate these revisions into the next edition of online Publication 52, Hazardous, Restricted and Perishable Mail, which is available via Postal Explorer® at pe.usps.com.
