IMM Revision: Individual Country Listing for Germany

Effective November 17, 2022, the Postal Service™ is revising the Individual Country Listing for Germany in Mailing Standards of the United States Postal Service, International Mail Manual (IMM®) to revise an entry in the Observations section and a Note in the Priority Mail Express International® section to reflect address requirements for parcels.

These revisions are based on a formal request that Deutsche Post (the designated operator of Germany) made through the Universal Postal Union via International Bureau Circular 93, dated June 13, 2022.

Observations

[Revise item 1 to read as follows:]

1. Any mail requiring a customs form must be addressed to the recipient’s physical residential or business address and may not be addressed directly to a parcel locker (DHL Packstation), a service point (postal outlet or DHL Paketshop), or a post office box (Postfach). Otherwise, the German customs authority may reject the mail for return to the sender. Deutsche Post, the designated operator of Germany, also requests that such mail include a local telephone number for the addressee.
