The Postal Service™ is revising Mailing Standards of the United States Postal Service, International Mail Manual (IMM®) to conform to requested country nomenclature by changing the official name of Turkey to the Republic of Turkiye (with Turkiye as the short name) in the sections of the IMM noted in this article.
This revision is based on a formal request that Turkish PTT Corporation (the designated postal operator of Turkiye) made through the Universal Postal Union via International Bureau Circular 141, dated August 15, 2022, and through subsequent information received by email on January 23, 2023.
The name change for Turkey also appears in Notice 123, Price List, and is mentioned in “International Mail: Price Changes and Minor Classification Changes for International Mailing Services” in Postal Bulletin 22614 (12-29-22, page 35), and in “International Mail: Competitive Services Product and Price Changes” in this issue of the Postal Bulletin.
The Postal Service will publish these revisions in the next edition of the online IMM, but in accordance with the notification from the UPU, the standards are effective immediately.
