IMM Revision: Global Express Guaranteed Service Updates

Effective July 1, 2009, the Postal Service™ is revising Mailing Standards of the United States Postal Service, International Mail Manual (IMM®) sections 213.2, 216.5, 217.1, 217.3, and the Individual Country Listings to change the minimum size package requirement for Global Express Mail Guaranteed® (GXG®) items and to update various parts of the destination country table.

Section 213.2 is revised to have a single table that reflects availability of GXG service to various countries (previously, information appeared in three separate tables). Note that only document service is available to Andorra and Bhutan — Iraq, Montenegro, and the Republic of Serbia have full service.

Section 216.5 and the Individual Country Listings are revised to rescind the previous requirement that GXG mailpieces must be large enough to contain the plastic pouch. Consequently, the minimum size requirement for a GXG shipment is that it must be large enough to completely contain the invoice (shipping label), postage, endorsement, and any applicable markings.

Section 217.1 is revised to include a new item “d” to clarify that the sender must place the GXG Air Waybill/Shipping Invoice (shipping label) and, if applicable, PS Form 6182, Commercial Invoice, into PS Form 2976-E, Customs Declaration Envelope CP 91 (plastic envelope).

Section 217.3 is revised to clarify that, when required (dependent on commodity and country destination), PS Form 6182 is the customs form used for GXG shipments.

We will incorporate these revisions into the next printed version of the IMM and into the monthly update of the online IMM, which is available via Postal Explorer® at http://pe.usps.com.
