Effective immediately, Handbook F-101, Field Accounting Procedures, is revised to delete section 20-1.2.1, Repayment of Locally Adjudicated Claims, and to discontinue the use of Account Identifier Code (AIC) 249, Recovered Indemnity Claims. AIC 249 will be deactivated in the reporting systems and placed on the reserve list.
The article “Handbook F-101 Revision: Claims Processing” in Postal Bulletin 22255 (3-26-09, pages 12–15) included new policy stating that Post Offices™ and postal retail units (PRUs) no longer adjudicate claims locally. Therefore, Post Offices and PRUs must no longer accept repayments for previously paid claims or use AIC 249.
Accounting Services adjudicates all claims and processes repayments of previously paid claims.
