Effective June 20, 2021, the Postal Service™ will revise Mailing Standards of the United States Postal Service, Domestic Mail Manual (DMM®), section 602.1.5.3, to clarify the standards regarding the required use of return addresses. Section 602.1.5.3 identifies specific circumstances when the sender’s domestic return address is required.
Currently, section 602.1.5.3 does not include standards for USPS Returns® service, Parcel Return Service, and specific circumstances when the sender’s domestic return address is required for hazardous, restricted, or perishable matter (as provided in section 221.11 of Publication 52, Hazardous, Restricted, and Perishable Mail). This revision will add standards to the DMM for USPS Returns service, Parcel Return Service, and hazardous, restricted, and perishable mail in accordance with the standards in Publication 52.
Although the Postal Service will not publish this revision in the DMM until June 20, 2021, the standards are effective immediately.
