In an effort to meet our customers’ changing needs and build on the success of our package delivery business, which has grown significantly over the past four years, the Postal Service began testing in 2014 the feasibility of delivering groceries — including fresh foods — in some communities. The two-month operational test began in August in San Francisco with Amazon. Through the service, customers can order groceries and the Postal Service will deliver them early the next day, between 3 a.m. and 7 a.m. In September, the Postal Service requested permission from the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) to conduct a two-year market test delivering groceries. If the PRC approves the proposal, the Postal Service would begin the deliveries in November 2014 and expand nationwide, focusing on major metropolitan areas.
