Wasilla Postal Annex Responds to Rapid Package Growth, including Extending Hours; Adding Sunday Hours

WASILLA, AK – In response to the rapid population and package growth in the Wasilla area, beginning Oct. 28, the Wasilla Postal Annex will extend hours an additional 16 ½ hours a week for customer convenience. The Wasilla Post Office has seen a 23 percent increase in packages this year.

Summary of upcoming changes at Wasilla Annex:

  • Extending annex hours an additional 16 ½ hours a week beginning Oct. 28. Until further notice the new hours at the Annex will be M-F 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Adding more parcel lockers at the annex and also at the Main Office as soon as possible.
  • Hiring additional holiday staffing to help with the increased volume, and providing District staff to assist at the annex with packages.
  • Realigning carrier routes to move traffic out of the annex and enhance our ability to deliver more packages to street addresses.

Customers are asked to retrieve their packages from parcel lockers in a timely manner, freeing them up for other customers. It is suggested customers come to the Annex at non-peak hours if at all possible.

“Our dedicated employees are working hard to keep up with the tremendous growth in population and packages in the Wasilla area,” said Manager Post Office Operations Candice Kvale. “Despite adding staff, a new package pick up window and dozens of parcel lockers for convenience in picking up packages without going to the counter, keeping up with the 23 percent package growth in Wasilla in the last year alone has been a challenge. We apologize to those customers who have experienced long wait times.

“We continue to closely monitor the situation and will make adjustments as necessary to ensure our customers receive the timely and reliable service they deserve.”
