FORT SMITH, AR — Gabriel Newton is the new Postmaster of Fort Smith, AR. In this role, he oversees 154 employees who serve the Fort Smith community in retail and delivery postal operations.
Newton began his postal career as a Rural Carrier Associate in 2011. After becoming a carer employee, he made the decision to go into management, and has served as Supervisor, Customer Services and Manager, Customer Services. “These roles have helped me develop the skills and attain the knowledge necessary to lead the Fort Smith postal team,” he says.
In 2021, the United States Postal Service published a 10-year strategic plan, Delivering for America. The plan established a path to building a Postal Service that is financially strong and consistently delivers on-time across Arkansas and America. In the short time since its launch, and under the leadership of Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, the Postal Service has made great progress on its four key pillars: Investing in its people, modernizing its network, providing service excellence, and creating financial sustainability.
Newton enjoys watching his favorite football teams, the LSU Tigers, and the New Orleans Saints. He is involved in his local church as a teacher and has participated in mission trips to Africa and South Korea. He enjoys fishing but never has the time to go.
“Early in my career, I realized the job was not just about delivering mail; it also included the relationships and trust you build with the customers of the United States Postal Service,” Newton adds. “The customers of the Fort Smith post office are my priority.”

The United States Postal Service is an independent federal establishment, mandated to be self-financing and to serve every American community through the affordable, reliable and secure delivery of mail and packages to 169 million addresses six and often seven days a week. Overseen by a bipartisan Board of Governors, the Postal Service is implementing a 10-year transformation plan, Delivering for America, to modernize the postal network, restore long-term financial sustainability, dramatically improve service across all mail and shipping categories, and maintain the organization as one of America’s most valued and trusted brands.
The Postal Service generally receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
