Cameron Mckenzie-Chapter Sworn in as 12th Postmaster of Yorkville

YORKVILLE, CA — On Friday, February 15, 2019 Cameron Mckenzie-Chapter will follow a proud tradition dating back to 1868 when Yorkville’s first Postmaster John McAbee first took office.

Mckenzie-Chapter will raise his right hand to take the official Oath of Office as the new Postmaster of Yorkville in a 1:00 p.m. ceremony held at the Yorkville Post Office located at 25400 Highway 128, Yorkville, CA 95494. Manager of Post Office Operations Maria Lane will administer the official oath of office.

Mckenzie-Chapter, 31, began his U.S. Postal Service career in 2015 as a casual clerk, becoming a full time employee a year later. Prior to his promotion to Postmaster, he worked diligently as a clerk in the nearby city of Elk.

As Postmaster of Yorkville, he hopes to be a servant of the community, emphasizing the value of the Post Office as a meeting spot, especially in rural areas. He stated, “I hope I can keep this as the center of daily life in my community.”

McKenzie-Chapter resides in Boonville with his wife Erika and their 16-month-old daughter Eva.

In his spare time, Mckenzie-Chapter is an avid mushroom gatherer which allows him the opportunity to utilize his Bachelor’s Degree in Viticulture and Enology.

When he isn’t identifying different specimen of fungi, he dedicates time as a volunteer firefighter for the Anderson Valley Fire Department. The experience, he states, taught him a lot about his community beyond personal interaction with neighbors and gave him a deep appreciation of the geography and rich history of the area.

As Postmaster of Yorkville, which has a population of over 500 residents, Mckenzie-Chapter manages two employees who process and deliver over 500 pieces of mail and packages daily to 177 street addresses through its rural route. The office also delivers to 224 Post Office Boxes.

Mckenzie-Chapter succeeds previous Yorkville Postmaster Richard Coolidge who retired.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
