Pittsburg welcomes Nile Troelstrup as new Postmaster

PITTSBURG, CA — On Friday, June 14, 2019, Troelstrup will follow a proud tradition dating back to 1868 when Frank Maxon was the first Pittsburg Postmaster. A lot has changed since then, but the tradition of installing a new Postmaster has remained a time-honored custom.

Troelstrup will raise his right hand to take the official Oath of Office as the new Postmaster of Pittsburg at 10:00 AM at the Pittsburg Post Office, 835 Railroad Ave., Pittsburg, CA 94565.

Troelstrup began his postal career at a clerk at the Midway mail processing center in San Diego in 1993. As a clerk, he worked in various mail sorting operations and in the computer forwarding system in San Diego until 2000. He decided to try delivering the mail and became a letter carrier in 2005, where he carried mail in Sidney, NE and Sterling CO. He started his management track in 2008 as a supervisor in Kearney, NE.

Troelstrup served as the Postmaster of Arcata, CA from 2013 to 2015. Prior to his selection as the Pittsburg Postmaster, he was a station manager in San Francisco and a supervisor at the Brentwood, CA Post Office.

“I am honored to be the Postmaster of Pittsburg, and I take the responsibility to serve the community greatly every day,” said Troelstrup. “I take pride as a Postmaster in making a positive impression, and it is my goal to give the Pittsburg and Bay Point communities a Post Office to be proud of.”

Troelstrup, 52, enjoys hunting, fishing, hiking, camping and golfing. He and his wife, Teresa, reside in Discovery Bay. They have four children, Nicole, 28, Brandon, 27, Christian, 24, and Owen, 15.

As Postmaster of Pittsburg, Troelstrup oversees 79 employees and 44 city and rural routes, with 32,000 delivery points (addresses) and a daily mail volume of 97,000 pieces.

Manager of Post Office Operations Crystal Jones will administer the official oath of office.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
