ALBION, CA — On Tuesday August 6, 2019, Shawn Nichols will follow a proud tradition dating back to 1859 when Albion’s first Postmaster James Townsend took office.
Nichols will raise her right hand to take the official Oath of Office as the new Postmaster of Albion at a 1:00 p.m. ceremony held at the Albion Post Office, 3350 Albion Ridge Road, Albion, CA 95410.
Manager of Post Office Operations Maria Lane will administer the official oath.
Nichols began her U.S. Postal Service career 17 years ago as a clerk in Point Arena, CA. After eight years as a clerk, she honed her managing skills as acting Postmaster of several Post Offices over the course of four years. Nichols became Postmaster of Gualala, where she served the last five years prior to her selection as the Albion Postmaster.
As Postmaster of Albion, Nichols plans to provide great service to the local community and show local businesses how they can benefit from the services the Post Office has to offer. She states that she truly enjoys helping others. “Being the Postmaster of Albion is an honor. I want to establish a strong relationship with the community,” said Nichols.
Nichols resides in Elk with her husband of 33 years Todd Nichols. They have two sons, Travis and Troy Nichols and three grandchildren, Peyton, Beau and Kinsley.
In her spare time, she enjoys spending time outdoors with her family, swimming, camping, boating or taking a drive on her four-wheeler. Nichols often volunteers at local fundraisers as well.
As Postmaster of Albion, which has a population of nearly 1,000 residents, Nichols manages three employees and oversees the daily delivery of close to 970 pieces of mail and packages to 132 street addresses and 1,008 Post Office Boxes between Albion and the remotely administered Post Office in Comptche.
Nichols succeeds previous Albion Postmaster Shari Hetzler who now serves as Postmaster of Fort Bragg.
The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
