John Swanson to be Sworn in as Buena Park Postmaster

BUENA PARK, CA — On Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2019, at 10:00 a.m., John Swanson will follow a proud tradition that dates back to 1887 when Ms. Sarah Benham was appointed as the first Postmaster of Buena Park.

Swanson will raise his right hand to be sworn in as the twenty-first Postmaster at the Buena Park Post Office, 7377 La Palma Ave., Buena Park, CA 90622.

In 2010, Swanson began his postal career as a casual clerk in Daytona Beach, FL.  After moving to California, he worked in various assignments, such as the route inspection team, supervisory and managerial positions.  He was promoted as Buena Park Postmaster in July 2019.

“It is a great honor to become the Postmaster of Buena Park,” said Swanson. “I plan on accomplishing many tasks working with my staff, employees, customers and local city officials, ultimately making sure we are providing quality service to our residents.”

Swanson comes from a long tradition of family that was employed by the Postal Service.  His grandfather started as a mail handler at Worldway in the Los Angeles District.  His parents, Robert Swanson and Carmel Digiacomo, both started as carriers at the Redondo Beach Post Office.   His stepdad, uncle, aunt and two brothers also work for the Postal Service.

He enjoys anything outdoors such as bike riding and football with his son, Jacob. He is Lean Six Sigma trained and volunteers at church, food drive and hurricane clean up.

As Postmaster, he manages all operations at the Buena Park Post Office with a total of 43 city routes, delivering to 33,143 addresses and 1,409 Post Office Boxes.  He manages 102 employees who process, distribute, and deliver an average of 126,408 pieces of mail and 4,021 packages daily.

Manager Post Office Operations Gloria Hernandez will administer the official oath of office.  Swanson replaces Antonio Munoz who relocated to another post office

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
