Ruth Swartz to be Sworn in as Folsom Postmaster

FOLSOM, CA — On Friday, January 31, 2020, Ruth Swartz will follow a proud tradition dating back when Benjamin Franklin was the first Postmaster General of the United States.

Swartz will raise her right hand to take the official oath of office as the new Folsom Postmaster at noon ceremony at the Folsom Post Office, 1015 Riley St., Folsom, CA 95630. Post Office Operations Manager Al Valdivia will administer the official oath of office.

Swartz began her U.S. Postal Service career in 2007, as a transitional employee in Carmichael, CA. In 2014, she began her management career supervising carriers and clerks in Sacramento, CA.  In 2018, she was promoted to manager in El Dorado Hills, CA.

“I feel honored to be able to represent the Postal Service in this way,” Swartz said. “My goal is to serve this growing Folsom community by providing the best customer service by means of my expertly-trained and dedicated staff. In the next five years alone, this region is expected to expand with 19,000 residential projects, 200 new businesses and two schools.”

Swartz has two children, Sophia Swartz, 30 and John Swartz Jr., 28. She enjoys spending time with her grandson, Silas, 9. Swartz is very involved with her church and she volunteers to help at drug and alcohol recovery programs.

As Folsom Postmaster, Swartz oversees 27 rural routes and 16 city routes generating more than 80,000 pieces of daily mail volume. In addition, Folsom services nearly 2,300 daily Post Office Box deliveries. Swartz manages 76 employees.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
