DUARTE, CA — On Friday, March 13, 2020, at 11:00 a.m., Jose Martinez will follow a proud tradition that dates back to 1966 when Mr. Thomas V. Holmes became the first Postmaster of Duarte.
Martinez will raise his right hand to be sworn in as the tenth Postmaster at the Duarte Post Office, 1220 Highland Ave., Duarte, CA 91010.
In 1993, Martinez began his postal career as a part-time flexible carrier in Azusa, CA. In 1998, he began supervising and was promoted as Supervisor Customer Services. He served as manager customer services in San Marino Post Office and as officer-in-charge in Sunland and in Azusa prior to his promotion as Postmaster in Duarte.
“I am honored to be the Postmaster of Duarte and take the responsibility to serve the community greatly every day,” said Martinez. “I take pride as a Postmaster in making a positive impression, and it is my goal to give the Duarte community a Post Office to be proud of.”
Martinez and his wife, Darah, reside in Upland. They have two adult children, Vanessa and Andrew. He enjoys playing golf and spending time with family.
As Postmaster, he manages all operations at the Duarte Post Office and serves 1,402 Post Office Boxes.
Sierra Coastal District Manager Post Office Operations Jolene Fischer will administer the official oath of office. Martinez replaces Mary Nielsen who retired.
