Copperopolis Main Post Office to Relocate

COPPEROPOLIS, CA — On December 5, 2019, the United States Postal Service held a public meeting and proposed relocating the retail services currently provided at Copperopolis Main Post Office located at 405 Main Street, Copperopolis, CA 95228 to a yet to-be-determined location as close as reasonably possible to the existing location. The Postal Service has now identified 101 Town Square Road as its preferred new location. In the coming months, the Postal Service will begin construction of a new Post Office at this location.

At the public meeting held last year, the Postal Service considered all of the concerns expressed, as well as in the appeals and comments received after the public meeting. For the reasons set forth below, the Postal Service has decided to proceed with the proposal.

The Postal Service has outgrown its current space and there are safety issues related to the location on a very busy street. While the current landlord did offer to expand the existing space, the other safety issues could not be addressed at this current space. During the public comment period and at the public meeting there appeared to be a consensus that it was important to relocate to a different location within Copperopolis.

When the new Post Office opens at its new location, the Postal Service anticipates providing the same services as are provided to our customers at this current location. The Postal Service plans to continue services at the existing Post Office until the replacement facility is open and operating as a Post Office, so there will be no interruption of service.

While the Postal Service is sensitive to the impact of this decision on its customers and the Copperopolis community, the Postal Service properly considered community input and this decision is consistent with Postal Service objectives.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
